UPDATE: 1 killed, 4 critical in Devils Lake crash, ND. The boat, which was traveling at about 30 mph at night, struck a tree that was sticking out of the lake

UPDATE: 


Sheriff Steve Nelson said four others were hurt in the incident, Nelson said. Kyle Everson, 26, of Devils Lake; Joel Kurtz Jr., 26, of Devils Lake; and Danielle Brommenschenkel, 40, of Halstad, Minn., were all airlifted to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks after suffering injuries in the crash. 

The driver, Tom Burns, 54, of Grand Forks was driven to the hospital. 



Nelson said he did not know the severity of the injuries.

At about 2:45 a.m., the boat, which was traveling at about 30 mph, struck a tree that was sticking out of the lake. The crash happened on Devils Lake about five miles east of the city, Nelson said.

The incident is still under investigation, and Nelson did not say if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.

UPDATE: 


Officials have identified the victim in a fatal boating crash on Devils Lake. The victim is 26-year-old April Stenger from Detroit Lakes, MN.

Sheriff Steve Nelson says Stenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Four others were hurt, three with critical injuries, and transported to hospitals in the area.

One person is dead and multiple others injured after a boating accident early this morning on Devils Lake.

The Ramsey County Sheriff says just after midnight, they responded to Haybale Bay, about 5 miles east of the city of Devils Lake.

A group was on the water when their boat struck what's believed to be a tree that was sticking out of the lake.

One person is confirmed dead, and multiple others were airlifted to a hospital.More information is expected to be released Monday morning.
