35-year-old worker Gladis Loren Melendrez-Fuentes of Rockville, MD died after she was burried alive by yard waste at the Shady Grove Transfer Station in Maryland











A worker has died Thursday afternoon at a Montgomery County, Maryland, solid waste transfer station after she was trapped under debris.

It happened just after 1:30 p.m. at the Shady Grove Transfer Station.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue said that the worker was buried under a large pile of yard waste, including tree stumps, branches and brush.



Police later identified the worker as a 35-year-old woman, who died at the scene.

Officials believe the worker was buried for about 15 minutes before being rescued. They are working to determine the cause of the incident.

Police were on the scene conducting a death investigation. At this time, police do not believe the death is related to any crime.

DERWOOD, Md. — 


One person was killed and two others were injured Thursday afternoon after an accident at the Shady Grove Transfer Station.

The incident happened in the 16100 block of Frederick Road.

Police said 35-year-old Gladis Loren Melendrez-Fuentes of Rockville, MD died in the incident. She was a subcontractor at the trash transfer station, who sorted through yard waste and removed any garbage mixed in.




While she was separating trash from yard waste Thursday afternoon, a load of yard waste was dumped on top of her.

Police said two other people were hurt in the incident.
