CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - Traffic investigators are trying to determine what caused an 18-wheeler carrying scrap metal to flip on its side Monday afternoon beneath the overpass at Agnes and NPID.

The accident happened around 3 p.m., and despite how bad the accident looked, police said the driver of the big rig escaped without injury.

"Judging by some of the tire marks, speed might have been a factor and it overturned," said Lt. Villarreal of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "The 18-wheeler just had scrap. Didn't have any chemicals, wasn't transporting any HazMat."

Investigators are trying to determine if the driver of the 18-wheeler will face any charges.
