A fire began in an antique car and spread through an automotive shop along Route 8 Friday night, temporarily shutting down part of the highway, Shaler police Lt. Sean Frank said.

The fire was reported at GIS Automotive at 1015 William Flynn Highway shortly after 10 p.m.

All lanes of Route 8 from Pennview Street to Spencer Lane reopened by 1:30 a.m.

Several fire departments and an Allegheny County Hazardous Materials team responded. A firefighter was evaluated by EMS for a wrist injury but declined to go to the hospital.

The fire began in a 1933 Ford in the rear of the showroom, according to county Emergency Services Chief Matt Brown. The vehicle had been brought in about a month ago to have a new engine installed, and the job was nearly complete. The fire damaged several vehicles.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
