PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — A half a dozen homes in a Peoria neighborhood were evacuated Sunday after a chlorine leak in a well.

Peoria firefighters say an alarm at a water treatment well site indicating a chlorine leak went off around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Crews say an elevated level of chlorine gas was detected and six homes near the well site were evacuated as a precaution.

But strong winds helped blow vapors away from homes. No homeowners were threatened.

Firefighters determined the leak was coming from a 150-gallon chlorine tank in a shed that is used in water filtration.

They were able to shut down the leaking container.

No firefighters were injured.

Water officials is now in charge of the scene.
