NEW BRUNSWICK (WABC) -- Two people were killed when their car went out of control and plunged into the Raritan River in New Jersey.
The car careened off of Route 18 in New Brunswick at about 1:00 a.m. Monday.
It happened on the northbound side of Route 18, before the George Street exit.
A rescue team rushed into the river, in an unsuccessful attempt to save the two people in the car.
The two bodies and the vehicle have been recovered from the scene.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the car to go into the river. Most likely, the driver was drunk and /or speeding.
