TRUCK DRIVER DIES
IN THREE-SEMI ACCIDENT IN IN EAU CLAIRE COUNTY, WISCONSIN

An accident involving three semi-trailer trucks early
this morning claimed the life of the driver of one unit, according to the
Wisconsin State Patrol.
The crash occurred at 2:50 a.m. Jan. 7 on the westbound
side of I-94 at County Road HH in Eau Claire County.
According to the State Patrol, preliminary investigation
indicates a westbound semi unit traveling in the right lane had slowed down due
to mechanical problems near Milepost 75. A second semi unit traveling in the
same lane drove into the rear of this unit. A third semi unit traveling in the
same lane clipped the rear of the second semi unit and jackknifed into the
median.
The driver of the second semi suffered fatal injuries.
The drivers of the first and third units were transported to Mayo Health System
in Eau Claire.
The names have not been released pending family
notifications. The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State
Patrol.
Originally this crash was reported to involve four semi
units, but has now been determined to only involve three.
As of 9 a.m., I-94 westbound continued to be shut down
at Milepost 75 due to the traffic crash. The vehicles are being removed at this
time. A re-route has been established at Exit 81 (Foster).
Assisting agencies included Eau Claire Sheriff’s
Department, Eau Claire County Highway Department, Eau Claire Fire Department,
Eau Claire Ambulance and Mayo One Air Ambulance.
