4 HURT AS TRUCK
CRASHES INTO HOUSES IN SAN FERNANDO VILLAGE.
LACK OF SLEEP MADE THE TRUCK DRIVER DISORIENTED BEFORE THE ACCIDENT.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- At least four people were
reported injured after a truck crashed into two houses in Barangay San Isidro
here Wednesday night.
Initial police reports said the accident happened around
9:00 p.m. when the truck evaded another vehicle before hitting the residential
area.
Of the four injured, three were occupants of the houses,
while the fourth was a truck passenger who was pinned inside the vehicle. They
were immediately brought to the Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital for
medical treatment.
Witnesses said the truck driver, who was identified as
Razes Macario, was driving too fast.
"We were surprised because the truck almost caught
us if we weren't able to dodge it. Unfortunately, my niece was hit because the
truck was moving too fast for her to escape," said homeowner Bernie
Salonga.
Macario defended himself by saying that he only
attempted to avoid a pick-up truck, which eventually resulted to his truck
colliding with the houses.
"The truck went out of control because the brake
was probably not working. But I think I was only driving at around 30
kilometers per hour," he argued.
The police investigation, however, revealed that the
lack of sleep made the truck driver disoriented before the accident.
“It was actually very evident that the truck was moving
too fast because of the damage it has done to the two houses. He also admitted
that he was sleepy while driving,” said police Investigator Ian Roy Del
Rosario.
The homeowners, meanwhile, agreed to a settle the issue
provided that the truck owner will pay for all of the damages incurred, the
police added.
