WEST (January 8, 2015) Interstate 35 just south of West was moving very slowly in both directions Thursday morning after an 18-wheeler turned on its side and spilled its load of French fries onto the roadway.

Department of Public Safety troopers were allowing traffic in one lane northbound to move around the debris and southbound traffic, which had been at a standstill for more than four hours, also was creeping around the wreck.

All traffic in both directions had been diverted off the main lanes onto access roads since about 1:30 a.m. when an 18-wheeler that was carrying frozen French fries flipped onto its side and spilled the load of potatoes onto the highway, a spokesman for DPS in Waco said.
No one was hurt, but debris from the wreck forced troopers to close the main lanes.
At about 6 a.m. traffic on the southbound side was allowed to creep around the overturned truck after it could be move a short distance from where it came to rest.

The northbound side was affected because the truck hit a concrete barrier between the lanes of traffic and pushed the barrier into the northbound lanes.

Troopers still were advising motorists to seek an alternate route because passage through the area would be extremely slow for several hours until all the debris can be moved.
