SPARKS, Nev. (KOLO)-- 3:245 p.m. update:
The Nevada Highway Patrol says a woman is dead following a rollover accident on Pyramid Highway. According to Sgt. Hernandez, the SUV carrying a husband, wife and four kids was heading northbound near Axe Handle Canyon Road when the driver tried to pass another car heading in the same direction. Sgt. Hernandez says the driver of the SUV moved out of the travel lane, overcorrected, and flipped- hitting the other car. That driver was not injured, but the husband and four kids were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash, but the driver was obviously speeding and careless in passing. The accident shut down the highway in both directions for a time, but all lanes are now back open.
3:28 p.m. update:
The Nevada Highway Patrol says both lanes are now reopened.
1:53 p.m. update:
One lane of Pyramid Highway is open and traffic is moving through in alternating directions, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.
It is now a fatal accident.
Original story:
Both directions of the Pyramid Highway at shut down at the north end of Spanish Springs Valley for a vehicle that rolled over.
Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were still en route to the accident near Axe Handle Canyon Road at 11:45 a.m., dispatch reported. Care Flight was also on the way.
It was a single vehicle involved. There’s no details when the highway will be reopened.
