NEOSHO, MISSOURI
The investigation into an explosion early Monday
morning at USA Metal Recycling in Neosho has been turned over to the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
The explosion, caused when an explosive device discovered among a pile of empty aluminum shell casings was accidentally detonated, cost the life of USA Metal employee Cody Brisco, 20, of Granby, and moderately injured a second employee, Tyler Spencer, 23, also of Granby.
Contrary to initial emergency calls, there was only one explosion, and it did not cause a fire. The blast caused minimal damage to the facility.
Following a sweep of the structure by agents with the U.S. Department of Defense and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the building and outlying area was deemed safe. The State Fire Marshal's Office also investigated.
On Wednesday it was announced that the investigation is being continued by OSHA. All information, including the autopsy report, will be turned over to OSHA.
