1 Bridge Worker Remains Hospitalized
One of the four construction workers hurt when the Pennsy Bridge in
Ridgway collapsed Thursday afternoon remains in the hospital, and a
spokesman for the construction company says his helmet saved his life.
Sam Dennis, superintendent of Francis J. Palo, the Clarion construction company working on the bridge on Route 219 that spans Elk Creek, did not give the names of any of the workers.
The most seriously injured was flown to an out-of-town hospital. The other three were treated at a hospital and then released.
Two of the workers were under the bridge when it collapsed, and one of them was hit in the head with a beam. The others were on the bridge and fell to the ground during the collapse.
Crews continued to work on the bridge today, and pull out an excavator that was on the bridge when it collapsed.
PennDOT says that section of Route 219 will be closed until further notice. Detours are in place.
