A construction worker working on a structure under
construction at Ocala Regional Medical Center was injured Monday when a scissor
lift fell over.
Ocala Fire Rescue says when they arrived at scene they found
the man lying on the ground of the second story of the structure. According to fellow workers the subcontractor
was on a scissor lift when a shift in weight on the surface where he stood, toppled
the apparatus over causing them both to fall.
Firefighters had to construct a hand built ladder to get to
the man.
Ocala Fire Rescue says he was conscious and alert during the
rescue and transported to the adjacent hospital for treatment.

OCALA FIREFIGHTERS
RESOURCEFULNESS AIDES IN CONSTRUCTION SITE RESCUE

Ocala Fire Rescue personnel responded to reports of a fall, at
approximately 9:42 A.M., in a structure under construction at Ocala Regional Medical
Center.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a worker lying on the ground
of the second story of the structure. According to fellow workers the subcontractor
was on a scissor lift when a shift in weight on the surface where he stood, toppled
the apparatus over causing them both to fall.
Because the site was under construction and the only access
point was a hand built ladder (pictured above) firefighters had to resort to
ingenuity in order to safely remove the patient from the second floor. Noticing
a crane was available, rescue crews proceeded to load the patient in to a stokes
basket and, once secured, lower him to ground level with the aforementioned
tool.
The worker, who was conscious and alert through the process,
was transported to the adjacent hospital for treatment.
