MCLENNAN COUNTY - A man is unharmed after losing control
of his 18-wheel truck and crashing into a median causing the truck to burst
into flames.
The accident happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning
on I-35 south near the Wiggins Road exit in West.
Emergency crews from Ross and West, along with TxDOT, were on scene.
The driver lost control of the truck and veered directly into the median and partially in the northbound lanes. The truck then burst into flames, but fire crews put out the flames within a few minutes.
Gasoline from the truck leaked out onto the interstate.
Both sides of the interstate were shut down for some time. Northbound lanes were at a standstill for an hour before cars were diverted to the service road.
On the southbound side, drivers were struck in standstill traffic hours after the crash. The line of cars stretches back for about a mile. From that point, cars are being diverted to the service road.
