MONTGOMERY, New York (WABC) -- At least one person is dead and several others are hurt after a multi-vehicle crash in Orange County Wednesday afternoon.
The accident happened just before 12:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-84 near exit 5 in Montgomery.
Authorities say two tractor-trailers and four cars were involved, and that two patients were airlifted to an area hospital.
The exact number of injured is unknown, but police have confirmed at least one fatality.
The westbound lanes are expected to be closed for several hours, and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
The crash happened just a few miles east of where a multiple-vehicle crash shut down I-84's westbound lanes for four hours Monday.
At least 34,000 people die each and every year on the deadly
U.S. roads. This is one of the highest death rates for a
"developed" economy. Hundreds of thousands injured as
well.
Nobody is safe on the roads: drivers, pedestrians, cyclists,
passengers, EMS personnel, troopers, road workers, and so on. We are all at
risk. So be extra careful. The other driver will not pay much
attention to you because of the texting, telephones, GPS, and so many other
distractions, including the latest one, Pokemon Go.
