NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -
A Norfolk Southern train derailed in North Charleston Wednesday afternoon.
According to company officials, the train, which was en route to Charleston, derailed two locomotives and two rail cars carrying "intermodal containers."
"There were no injuries to the train crew," officials said."There were no hazardous material contained in the the derailed containers."
The incident happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. one mile west of Ashley Phosphate road, Norfolk Southern officials say.
Company officials say they are bringing in heavy equipment to re-rail the locomotives, rail cars and containers.
"The train was carrying a total of 19 rail cars," official said."The cause of the derailment is under investigation."
Fire, EMS and police responded to the incident.
The City of North Charleston's Twitter account tweeted that the train derailment is not impacting traffic on Ashley Phosphate.
Motorists reported that the Ladson Road train crossing is blocked because of the derailment.
