BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) —

A child who was resuscitated after family pulled him from a pond succumbed to his injuries in Women and Children’s Hospital over the weekend.

On Thursday, July 2, police responded to a call in Wyoming County to aid 4-year-old Chase Kristofer Goodell, who wasn’t breathing following an accident which left him in a nearby pond. The boy’s grandmother saw him in the water and pulled him out.

Police reports say the boy drove a small ATV into the pond and nearly drowned. When first responders with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department got to the scene, they applied first aid and were able to resuscitate him and move the child to Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.

Doctors in the hospital listed Goodell in critical condition, but the child didn’t recover. Family arranging services on Monday selected the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home in Perry. Friends and family are invited to call the funeral home on Friday from 2 through 4 p.m. and 7 through 9 p.m.

Family will hold a service at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family, which was grateful to the response of Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies, said in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
