SALEM, OREGON CONSTRUCTION WORKER KILLED BY DUI SUSPECT NEAR I-5

SALEM, OREGON (KOIN)

A 55-year-old construction worker was killed in a work zone on Tuesday morning.

William Hatch III was killed when he was struck by a 1992 Lexus driven by Roberto Lopez-Dejesus, 20.

Hatch was working for a private contractor who was grinding off asphalt in the eastbound lanes of Mission St. near I-5.

Lopez was arrested and charged with manslaughter I, reckless driving, reckless endangerment of a highway worker and DUI.  He also struck a piece of equipment when he hit Hatch.
