KARNES CITY, TEXAS
Emergency crews in Karnes County are at the scene of an oil
tank fire. Karnes County Sheriff's
Office will evaluate if they will fight the fire or let it burn itself out.
The tank, which is located at a Marathon Oil site near FM 1354, caught fire sometime around 1 p.m. Thursday. A plume of black smoke was seen coming from the tank.
No homes are nearby and no evacuations have been ordered.
The cause of the fire is not known. Sparks from storms, static electricity, etc. can ignite the flammable gases accumulated at the top section of the tank.
