The Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said a Spartanburg man died from a heat-related event on Tuesday.
Clevenger said John Gerald Wyatt, 37, of Avon Drive in Spartanburg died on Tuesday less than 24 hours after he was admitted to the Spartanburg Medical Center with an elevated temperature of 108 degrees.
Wyatt was pronounced dead at 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday.
Clevenger said Wyatt was volunteering at a local church and was in and out of a cool building into the Monday afternoon heat when he reportedly became overheated.
Wyatt had been drinking fluids throughout the day, according to witnesses.
An autopsy revealed Wyatt died from a hyperthermia related event.
Coroner Clevenger reminds residents to use caution during this heat wave.
Remain hydrated and excessively avoid going in and out of cold buildings and vehicles into the extreme heat.
Call 911 immediately if you suspect you develop any medical emergency.
