BRIGHTON, COLORADO
One person was killed and five others were injured after a single-vehicle rollover crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 76 on Thursday morning.
John Bradley with the Brighton Police Department said the accident happened just east of E-470 about 9:30 a.m. There were two adults and four children in the vehicle that was traveling from Illinois. Bradley did not say who the fatal victim was.
Bradley said two of the injured were flown to hospitals on helicopters while the other three were transported by ambulance. The conditions of those injured were not known.
Witnesses told police that a tire blew out and the driver lost control of the vehicle. It flipped twice before coming to rest upside down in a grassy area.
Police said only one child was in a car seat and none of the other occupants was in a car seat or wearing a seat belt.
Westbound I-76 was shut down as crews investigated and cleaned up the accident. One lane reopened before noon and officials said the second westbound lane should reopen by 1 p.m.
