POINTE COUPEE PARISH, LA (WAFB)
Shortly after 2 a.m. on on Friday, May 29, 2015, Troopers
from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal
crash that happened on US 190 westbound at the intersection of LA 1 in Pointe
Coupee Parish.
The crash took the life of 21-year-old Devon R. Freeman of
Roscoe, TX.
During the investigation, State Police learned the crash happened
as Freeman was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry westbound on US 190.
At the same
time, 47 year old Derrick L. Hall of Baker, LA was also traveling westbound on
US 190 in a 2012 Peterbuilt. As both vehicles were traveling westbound in the
right lane, Freeman's Camry struck the rear of the 18-wheeler being driven by
Hall.
Freeman was unrestrained at the time of the crash and
suffered fatal injuries.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pointe
Coupee Parish Coroner's Office. Speed and impairment are possible factors in
the crash on the part of Freeman.
Hall was properly restrained at the time of the crash and
was not injured.
Impairment is not suspected on the part of Hall.
A toxicology
sample was taken from both drivers and submitted to the Louisiana State Police
Crime Lab for analysis.
