MAY 29, 2015

VOLO, ILLINOIS

Lakemoor police have identified the man killed in an early morning crash in Volo as 23-year-old Lakemoor resident Fernando Suarez III.

Police said Suarez was driving a 2012 Toyota south on Fox Lake Road north of Volo Village Road around 12:05 a.m. Friday when the vehicle left the road and rolled several times, ejecting him.

When emergency crews arrived, they found Suarez lying in the northbound lane and the badly damaged Toyota on its roof in the southbound ditch, according to a news release from Lakemoor Police Chief Dave Godlewski.

Authorities said it was unclear what caused the crash, although drunk driving or high speed appear to be the leading causes based on the horrendous crash scene. Officers with the Lakemoor Police Department, assisted by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, are investigating the crash.

Police closed North Fox Lake Road and Volo Village Road following the crash, but a police dispatcher said they reopened around 6:30 a.m.
