A man died yesterday and another is in hospital in a
critical condition after the top boom of a bucket lift truck came down suddenly
while trimming trees in in the 100 block of September Drive in Camp Hill,
Pennsylvania.
The deceased, Michael Shaud, 53, of Middletown, an employee of Shull's Tree Trimming of Middletown, Pennsylvania, was clearing debris under the boom, when it reportedly came down on top of him.
The worker inside the bucket was apparently thrown to the ground and sustained serious injuries; he was airlifted to a hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition.

An investigation into the incident is being carried by the Cumberland County Coroner's Office, Camp Hill Police and OSHA.

At this stage it is not possible to say what caused the tubular top boom to drop suddenly. Shaud was cleaning up debris when the boom of the Shull's Tree Service truck malfunctioned, Cumberland County Coroner Charley Hall said in the release. When the boom malfunctioned, the bucket at its end collapsed to the ground, hitting Shaud.
An autopsy on Shaud's body is scheduled for Friday. The
coroner, Camp Hill Police and OSHA are investigating the incident.
