MARYVILLE, TN (WATE)
Two people are dead after a crash involving four motorcycles and an SUV in Maryville.
Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers say the crash happened around 7 p.m. Friday night on E. Lamar Alexander Parkway near the intersection with Tuckaleechee Pike. The driver of the SUV, Andrea Daugherty, 31, from Walland, was injured in the crash along with passenger three year old Madeline Lowe. Both were taken to to UT Medical Center.
Troopers say two motorcycle riders were killed. Bryan W. Shafer, 57, and his passenger Nancy A. Shaffer, 51, from Cordova. The Shaffer’s were both riding the same bike.
A second motorcycle rider, Gregory Vickers, 63, and his passenger Diana Vickers, 62, both from Maryville, were also injured in the accident.
One person riding on a third motorcycle, Stanley T. Sampson was injured, and the fourth motorcycle rider injured in the accident is Fannie L. Sampson also from Maryville.
All motorcycle riders were wearing helmets, and they were all transported to UT Medical Center.
The motorcycle riders were heading southbound on E. Lamar Alexander Parkway. Daughtery was driving northbound on E. Lamar Alexander Parkway when she entered the turn lane. Daughtery then left the turn lane and drove into oncoming traffic, where she hit all four motorcycles. The highway was closed until 1:15 Saturday morning while THP investigated the crash.
