3 KILLED IN FIERY PLANE CRASH AT PLAINVIEW-HALE COUNTY AIRPORT IN TEXAS

MAY 29, 2015

PLAINVIEW, TEXAS

At least three people died about 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, when a private plane crashed while attempting to take off from Plainview-Hale County Airport.

According to reports from the scene, the plane went down on airport property. It burned on impact.

Emergency responders were still on the scene at 10:30 p.m. and blocking all entrances to the facility.

The airplane is thought to have been based in Plainview, and piloted by a local individual. However, no names have been released by officials.

Fire officials confirmed there were multiple deaths.

The crash occurred as a strong gust front was moving through the area and inclement weather likely had a factor in the crash. The airplane was inverted when it crashed. There apparently was no debris found on the runway.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued the following statement late Friday night:

A single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza crashed while departing from Hale County Airport in Plainview, Texas, around 9:15 p.m. Friday. Local authorities reported that the aircraft was destroyed by fire after the crash.

According to a flight plan filed by the pilot, the aircraft was flying from Plainview to San Antonio with three people on board.

Please contact local law enforcement for all information on the occupants.

FAA investigators, as well as the National Transportation Board, have been notified and will be arriving at the crash site as soon as possible. The tail number of the aircraft will be released after it is verified by investigators.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of the investigation, as well as all updates on its progress.
