Four
construction workers were injured Thursday afternoon while working in a pit on
the SR-99 waterfront tunnel project near Seattle Center.
Officials say the four were inside an elevator shaft inside the pit at 301 Aurora Ave. North when a wall inside the elevator broke, sending the four down 25 feet into a hole.

Three of
the workers were able to crawl out of the hole. The fourth worker had broken
bones and possible internal injuries and had to be hand-carried up the 1/2 mile
hike up to the top of the tunnel ramp.
All four have been taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. A hospital spokeswoman says a 23- and 31-year-old patient were there so far and were awake and alert.
The area is where construction is under way on where the eventual waterfront tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct would exit.
