HOUSTON,
TEXAS:
More than a
dozen people were taken to the hospital after a fiery crash involving a METRO
bus, authorities said.
The crash
was reported at 11:57 a.m. Thursday in northeast Houston.
METRO
spokesman Jerome Gray said the bus was traveling eastbound on Crosstimbers at
Hirsch when it collided with an older van that was heading westbound. Views from Air 11 showed that the van was
consumed by flames as the METRO bus kept going into a nearby field.
In all, 16
people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The
driver of the bus and 14 passengers were transported by ambulance, METRO said.
METRO said
the van's driver was able to make it out before the fire. He or she was then
taken to the hospital as well.
The
investigation into the cause of the crash is still underway.
