EUTAWVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Orangeburg County authorities say a 91-year-old woman has died in a fire at her Eutawville home.

Investigators say Josephine Washington was home alone when the blaze started around 10:15 a.m. Friday and she couldn't escape.

Firefighters say the home was made of concrete blocks, which made it difficult to try and rescue Washington from the flames.

Granddaughter Cresendle Richardson told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg (http://bit.ly/1xC88nr) that her grandmother was still spunky at age 91 and loved to dress nicely with her bracelets.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Based on house fire death statistics across North America, the elderly people and the very young are the number one victims of house fires.
