DRIVER OF A PICKUP THAT OVERTURNED ON AN OVERPASS AND COLLIDED WITH A JEEP IN WACO, TEXAS, FLED AFTER THE ACCIDENT. 2 PERSONS WERE INJURED.

WACO (January 17, 2015) The driver of a pickup that overturned on an overpass and collided with a Jeep fled after the accident, which sent his passenger and the driver of the Jeep to a Waco hospital with serious injuries, police said Saturday.

The accident happened shortly before 6 p.m. Friday on East Waco Drive on the overpass over U.S. Highway 77, police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

A 2005 Ford F-150 that was eastbound in the 1800 block of East Waco Drive struck a guardrail, crossed the median and overturned, ending up in the westbound lanes of traffic where it struck a 2008 Jeep.

The driver of the pickup was able to climb out of the badly damaged truck and ran, Swanton said.

His passenger, a 57-year-old man whom Swanton said is the truck’s owner, and the 59-year-old woman who was driving the jeep both had to be extricated from the damaged vehicles.

They were both taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center with serious injuries and the woman was admitted to intensive care, Swanton said.
