2 WORKERS BURNED IN KARNES COUNTY EXPLOSION WHILE USING A TORCH TO CUT A TANKER TRUCK

KARNES CITY, Texas -
A medical helicopter responded to an oilfield site in Karnes County where two
people were burned Monday afternoon.
A Karnes County
sheriff's spokesman said the incident occurred around 3:50 p.m. on State Farm
Road 99, about 2 1/2 miles west of Karnes City.
He said two workers
at Premier Tank Services were using a cutting torch on a tanker truck when the
tank exploded.
The 37- and 44-year-old workers suffered second- and
third-degree burns and are being taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center
for treatment.
While the injured workers may be entitled to workers'
compensation benefits to pay for their medical treatment, other compensation
may be available to cover other losses.
Generally speaking, injured employees in Texas may be entitled
to workers' compensation if their employer has coverage. If that's the case,
the employee is entitled to receive lost income and medical benefits. Some employers in Texas choose not to
purchase workers' compensation insurance. In such cases, the injured worker may need to
use the civil courts to obtain compensation.
