DEER PARK, Texas - A shelter-in-place order that was issued Wednesday morning because of a fire at a plant in the northern part of Deer Park has been lifted.
A message posted on the city’s emergency management Twitter about 8:40 a.m. said that all people north of P Street should seek shelter immediately. Just after 9 a.m., a message was posted on the same page, saying the order had been lifted.
According to a message posted on the Facebook page of the Deer Park Police Department, the alert was prompted by a fire at the Hexion Inc. plant, which is inside the Shell refinery compound.
Hexion spokesperson Ray Fisher said in an emailed statement to Channel 2:
This morning around 8:15, a fire started at the Hexion plant in Deer Park, Texas. Hexion sits within Shell Deer Park’s facility. All Hexion employees are accounted for at this time. The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes, and fire crews are standing by to provide additional support. The e-notify and CAER Line messages have been activated. Hexion is determining the cause of the fire along with any impacts to the community.
KPRC 2 viewers reported seeing smoke coming from the area of the Shell refinery. Video from Sky 2 over the scene showed damage to the top of a container at the plant and more than a dozen emergency workers on the ground.
No injuries were reported.

DEER PARK, TX (KTRK) -- The City of Deer Park says a shelter-in-place order has been lifted for residents north of P Street.
A fire was reported around 8:25am at the Hexion Deer Park facility, with visible smoke. Officials said the fire is not expected to impact surrounding plants or neighborhoods.
Officials previously ordered residents indoors after the fire.
