MIAMI – The Coast Guard rescued six people Monday from a sinking boat about one mile east of Lake Worth.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami received a report of a 20-foot boat taking on water and launched a 33-foot Special Purpose Craft boat crew from Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet to assist.
The boat crew arrived on scene, embarked the six from the sinking boat and transferred them to Curry Park in good condition. A crew from TowBoatUS crew salvaged the boat.
“This case is a great example of how membership with a commercial assistance provider can be a lifesaver,” said Lt. Cmdr. Andrea Parker, search and rescue mission coordinator. “The Coast Guard was notified by the towboat [crew] of the situation and immediately recognized the potential the situation may worsen. The timely response of towboat and the Coast Guard were instrumental to ensuring all six individuals returned safely to port.”
