On Thursday, July 7 at 5:14 p.m., Arkansas State Police responded to a motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Highway 60 near Plainview in Yell County.

According to a fatal crash summary completed by the Arkansas State Police, the collision involved one vehicle, a 1996 Ford Tanker Truck as it traveled east on State Highway 60.

Following an investigation, Arkansas State Police determined that the accident occurred while the truck was traveling eastbound on State Highway 60 and was negotiating a curve. While entering the curve, the truck left the roadway, over-corrected to the left and then reentered the roadway. After returning to the roadway the truck overturned, rolling over approximately three times as it left the roadway once again. After rolling over, the truck then came to rest on its drivers side.

The driver of the tanker truck, identified as Plainview firefighter Lance Crawford, SR, 50 of Plainview, was killed in the accident.

At the time of the accident the truck was being driven during the fire department's weekly drill and meeting. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry when the crash occurred. Prior to publishing this story, next-of-kin has been notified.

The tanker trucks are very easy to roll over.  They can withstand a very small g force, as low as 0.2g.  If they carry a load, then the sloshing of the load creates even more instability and higher risk of rolling over.  This is what happen to this brave firefighter.  RIP brother.
