FREDERICK COUNTY, Va. (ABC7) — A 47-year-old woman was seriously injured after falling roughly 40-feet from a fair ride at the Frederick County Fairgrounds in Virginia on Monday, July 25, according to police.
The woman suffered multiple injuries and was taken to the Winchester Medical Center.
Police say she was riding the "Super Shot." As the ride descended, her secured seat was detached from the main portion of the ride and hit the ground.
The Shenandoah Valley Fire Department tweeted that a cable on the ride broke.
The fair shut down all rides in the surrounding area following the incident.
ABC7's Rich Reeve spoke with ride operator Ed Inner, who says he's never seen an incident like this before at the Frederick County Fair.
This is a non-criminal investigation, so the county’s building inspectors are the ones trying to determine what happened, Reeve reported.
The fair was due to reopen on Tuesday evening.
