Car and fire truck collide, killing two

FANNIN COUNTY, Texas - FANNIN COUNTY, Texas -- A car and a fire truck collided Sunday, killing two people and injuring another.
Officials said it happened around 4:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 82 near Bonham.
Authorities said 22-year-old Christopher Nelson of Austin, Ark. was driving a fire truck east on the highway when one of the front tires blew out.
Nelson lost control and went into the westbound lane.
A westbound car approaching the fire truck then veered into the ditch, where both vehicles collided.
Officials said Jose and Ana Chavez of Reno, Texas died on scene.
A passenger in the fire truck was taken to Texoma Medical Center.
The fire truck was not from a local department.

FIRE APPARATUS CRASH IN TEXAS KILLS TWO CIVILIANS

There was a crash yesterday around 1630 hours on Highway 82 near Bonham in Fannin County, Texas. Apparently 22-year-old Christopher Nelson of Austin, Arkansas was driving a fire truck east on the highway when one of the front tires blew out. Nelson lost control of the fire apparatus and went into the westbound lane.
A westbound car approaching the fire truck then veered into the ditch, where both vehicles collided. In that car were Jose and Ana Chavez of Reno, Texas died on scene. A passenger in the fire truck was taken to Texoma Medical Center. Our condolences to all. RIP.
