Two people were killed in a fiery crash on Alabama Highway 69 South Monday afternoon.

The victims' names were not immediately released. Two people were hospitalized.

Witness Melvin Rollins said that he saw the crash and pulled over to help.

"Me and a young guy across the street tried to save them and get them out of the car, but the flames were too high," he said. "We got a fire extinguisher to spray the car, but we couldn't get them."

Rollins said that a gray GMC Envoy was traveling south on Highway 69 and made impact with a red car while turning left. The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of the highway and Upper Hull Road.

Rollins said that the victims' vehicle burst into flames immediately. Traffic was re-routed for several hours after the crash.

The surviving victims were treated for injuries at DCH Regional Medical Center, King said.
