WATCH OUT: Pedestrian deaths are on the rise: Girl, 5, struck in hit-and-run crash in North Philadelphia

Police are searching for the driver and vehicle that struck a 5-year-old girl in North Philadelphia.

The accident happened just before 5:00 p.m. Sunday on the 2200 block of North Lambert Street.

Authorities say an SUV was traveling southbound on Lambert when it struck the girl.

They say the SUV then reversed and went northbound, driving off eastbound on Dauphin Street.

Police arrived to find the young girl non-responsive with a large gash on her head.

The officers rushed her to Temple University Hospital.

She is listed in stable condition.

The vehicle is described as a light colored SUV or Jeep with a possible Pennsylvania tag number of JSG-6673.

The driver is described as a black male, heavy build with a Sunni beard.
