 ALBANY, GA (WALB)

Police say a man found dead at a former hotel building was trying to take copper wire.

Officers responded to the building of the former Best Holiday Motel at 2702 on North Slappey Blvd., Albany, GA 31701 just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators found a man, later identified as Ronny Griffin, dead inside a power box at the property.

A report noted that officers were dispatched to the building after Water Gas & Light learned about a power surge in the area.

Their initial investigation revealed that Griffin had been inside the power box cutting copper and trying to remove it.

The Dougherty County Coroner was called to determine the official cause of death.
