Construction worker dies in accident near downtown Lincoln after rebar falls onto his head

LINCOLN, NE

A construction worker has been killed near downtown Lincoln when a large piece of rebar fell more than 100 feet and hit him on the head.

The Lincoln Police Department will not release a name until his family is notified, but said he was from Missouri.

According to Lincoln police, a Missouri-based construction crew was drilling holes for the foundation of a new student housing complex. Shortly before noon, the rebar fell 130 feet, landing on the top of his hardhat.

Coworkers attempted to revive him, but he died before paramedics could arrive on the scene at Antelope Valley Parkway and P Street.

Hausmann Construction of Lincoln is building the private housing development for University of Nebraska students.
