BURLINGTON, KY
A truck driver involved in a fatal interstate crash in
January is now facing charges.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office said Christopher Thornhill
was arrested Wednesday and charged with manslaughter, assault, tampering with
physical evidence, 4 counts of criminal mischief, 3 counts of federal D.O.T.
log book violations, communication device violation (texting), and a federal
D.O.T. violation of using a cell phone in a commercial vehicle.
Thornhill, 33, was driving on Interstate 71 near Verona on
Jan. 29 when his northbound truck hit a disabled car, crossed the median and
hit two oncoming vehicles.
One of the oncoming drivers, Mark Sevilla, 45, of Lexington,
was killed in the crash. The other, Sandra Edwards, 64, of Cincinnati, was
injured.
The sheriff's office said investigators determined that
Thornhill’s log book had false entries and that Thornhill had been texting
while driving.
Thornhill deleted numerous text messages from his phone, but
the B.C.S.O.
Electronic Crimes Unit was able to recover them, the sheriff's
office said.
