LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB)
A woman died after a train struck her car on a crossing in
far southwest Louisville Wednesday night, police said.
The crash occurred about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday at the crossing near Abbotts Beach Road and Dixie Highway, Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell said.
The woman was the only person in a sedan that was struck. She died at the scene, Mitchell said.
The crossing does not have warning lights or gates, Mitchell said. It does have the familiar, white "crossbucks" signs.
Several people saw the collision and say they heard the train's whistle sound before the crash, Mitchell said.
Authorities have not yet not released the name of the car's driver, pending notification of relatives.
Police traffic investigators and Pleasure Ridge Park firefighters were called to the scene.
The Federal Railroad Administration database shows no record of other fatal crashes at the crossing.
On average, 11 trains pass the crossing per day, traveling 30-35 m.p.h., according to the FRA.

Pay attention all around when you drive. The trains, trucks, other vehicles are lethal
weapons and they may take your life if you are not too careful. Slow down, pay attention to the signs.
