TRAIN DERAILED IN MELLETTE, SOUTH DAKOTA BACK ON THE TRACKS. ICE CAUSED TWO AXLES OF THE ENGINE TO COME OFF THE TRACKS

MELLETTE, SOUTH DAKOTA

A train that derailed near the Mellette Wheat Growers elevator early Monday morning is back on the tracks.

Elevator manager Jerry Moen said ice caused two axles of the engine to come off the tracks resulting in a partial train derailment. The engine was detached from the rest of the cars so Highway 20 traffic could resume. Traffic is back to normal flow, Moen said.

At this time, the engine is back on the tracks and is being reattached to the other cars, Moen said. No injuries have been reported.
