GULFPORT, Miss. — Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove says a 55-year-old Saucier man died in a crash on Mississippi 53 just east of Lumpkin Road north of Gulfport.

Hargrove tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1IAXo0X ) Craig Mathis died at the scene, and an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Benjamin Seibert said Mathis' utility truck went off the north side of the road at 8:16 a.m. Wednesday, hitting a concrete power pole.

Seibert said the road reopened after several hours.

Mississippi Power spokesman Bill Snyder said the damaged concrete pole will have to be replaced.  This is unfortunately not true of Mr. Mathis who will be missed by his family and friends.
