JOHNSON COUNTY, TEXAS

A Sunday head-on collision near the intersection of Texas 174 and Highland Road near Rio Vista resulted in the death of one driver.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Rio Vista firefighters responded to the scene at about 8:06 a.m.

The driver of a Dodge pickup, traveling south on Texas 174, crossed into the northbound lane while passing another vehicle, according to preliminary DPS findings.

The driver of a U.S. Postal Service truck in the northbound lane attempted to take evasive action but was unable to avoid a collision. The USPS truck driver died at the scene.

The Dodge driver was transported to “an area trauma center” for serious injuries, DPS officials said. The names of the drivers has not been released and the accident remains under investigation.

Rio Vista FD, Cleburne FD, CareFlite ground EMS, and multiple law enforcement are on scene of a major accident on S. Highway 174 between Cleburne and Rio Vista. Reported as a possible head-on crash with entrapment. One patient is deceased at the scene. Avoid this area.
