Multiple emergency crews battled an overnight blaze that caused explosions at a Lancaster motorcycle dealership.
A passerby called in the fire at Cycle Town South, 1620 N. Interstate 35E, at 12:45 a.m. Friday. The fire engulfed part of the repair shop in the back of the building. Firefighters worked to prevent it from spreading to the showroom and office in the front. Crews had to deal with explosions as oil and fuel stored in the building combusted.
They called in help from Dallas County, the city of Dallas, Cedar Hill, Ovilla, Glenn Heights and DeSoto.
The rear of the building was destroyed. An investigation into the cause is underway.
One firefighter was treated by paramedics after being overcome by heat.
The northbound I-35E service road is expected to be shut down just north of Bear Creek Road through most of the morning, KXAS-TV (NBC5) reports.
Lancaster resident Gideon Shelton wrote on Facebook that his property backs up to Cycle Town South. He said he was outside at the time and felt the first explosion. Shelton also offered to help the shop.
"I was out in the barn when the alarm went off, looked an seen smoke and called. Drove around to check but was nothing could do," he said. "I sure hate to see things like this happen to good people. There's always a bigger plan though."
