HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Three people have died in a small plane crash near the northwest corner of Hobby Airport, according to the Houston Fire Department.
HFD says the plane crashed just before 1:15pm into a vehicle parked outside an Ace Hardware store in the 7800 block of Telephone. From SkyEye aerials, it appears the plane narrowly missed a propane tank in the parking lot.
Three people have died in a single-engine plane crash
HFD spokesman Ruy Lozano says there was no HazMat spill or fire as a result of the crash, but the fire department is there on standby in case of an emergency.
Lozano did not know any details about the crash or the victims. Right now, it doesn't not appear that anyone was inside that parked car, and no one else was injured.
Initial information suggests the plane is a fixed wing single-engine aircraft made by the Cirrus Design Group, Model - SR20. It is registered by Safe Aviation LLC in Moore, Oklahoma.
The city of Houston issued an alert asking drivers to avoid the following perimeter:
Bellfort to the North
Broadway to the East
Airport Blvd to the South
Mykawa to the West
