TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Two people have died in a wreck on Highway 69 South at Upper Hills Road, according to a release from Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred near the 135 mile marker on Highway 69 shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Monday, according to Senior Trooper Reginal King from ALEA.
On Tuesday, ALEA released that the crash occurred when a GMC Envoy collided with a 2015 Dodge Charger driven by Derrick Maurice Lucy, 38, of Huntsville.
Lucy and a passenger were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa to have their injuries treated, but the GMC caught fire, causing fatal injuries to the driver and a passenger.
At this time identification of the deceased victims is being withheld as the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences investigates.
