Police: Long Island Expressway wreck leads to tractor-trailer theft, pedestrian hit

A crash on the Long Island Expressway led to a chaotic chain of events late Wednesday night.

According to police, crash at Exit 62 in Holtsville happened at about 11:39 p.m. The driver of a car crashed then ran away.

Another person chased him across an LIE service road, was hit by a van and was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. They are not considered life threatening.

Police said the driver who initially crashed the car ran into Pride Solvents & Chemical Co. at 6 Long Island Ave. in Holtsville, then drove off with a tractor-trailer from the business parking lot.

The suspect drove the tractor-trailer about 7 miles, crashed at Route 112 and East Roe Boulevard in Patchogue. Police took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.

The suspect is at the hospital.
