Authorities have identified a man who was killed after he was hit while riding a bicycle in the Herndon area.

Police said Andrew Greff Gooden, 38, of St. James, Jamaica, was riding a bike around 8 p.m. Monday along Sunrise Valley Drive when he was struck from behind by an SUV. The SUV was driven by a 29-year-old Fairfax man, authorities said.

Police in Fairfax said Gooden and another bicyclist were heading north on Sunrise Valley Drive in the right lane. Neither rider was wearing reflective clothing and did not have lights on their bikes.

Gooden was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

The driver of the SUV remained on the scene. Speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors, police said, and the crash is still under investigation.

Last week, another cyclist was killed in a collision with a car on Massachusetts Avenue in Montgomery County.
